- Monitoring networks for water quality Appropriate programmes for monitoring water quality and the assessment of the status of waters have been in place in all countries within the Alpine perimeter. Since 2007 all programmes for monitoring water quality in EU member states have been based on the provisions of the EU Water Framework Directive.
